Books!

Should I aim for 25 again? I think I can...

OK, 25 in 2015. Let's go.

  1. Maddaddam (Maddaddam #3); Margaret Atwood
    • OK. OhhhhhK. Margaret Atwood is the boss. The Handmaid's Tale is one of my favorites, and I've loved this series. I think this installment was a fitting end... but it still ripped a hole in my heart.
  2. The Magician King (The Magicians #2); Lev Grossman
    • Really liking this series. I liken it to a cross between Harry Potter (as a disillusioned Millennial) and Narnia (as a still magical but sort of scary dystopia.)
  3. The Paying Guests; Sarah Waters
  4. What Color is your Parachute? 2015; Richard Bolles
    • This has been recommended to me since... I don't know, high school? So I finally gave in. It was aight.
  5. The Magician King (The Magicians #3); Lev Grossman
    • Loved this series.
  6. Griftopia; Matt Taibbi
    • "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!" But seriously, this was a great if you're into populist economics and/or generally flummoxed or pissed off by the state of our global economy.
  7. Tenth of December; George Saunders
    • I read the bulk of this collection while I was in Europe... but I couldn't bring myself to finish the last story until well into December. I just didn't want to let it go.
  8. Life after Life; Kate Atkinson
  9. The Stand; Stephen King
  10. A God in Ruins; Kate Atkinson
  11. Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy: Four Women Undercover in the Civil War; Karen Abbott
    • in progress...
  12. The Buried Giant; Kazuo Ishiguro
    • I read Never Let Me Go last year, and it left a hole in my heart. But it was absolutely beautiful and I loved it. The Buried Giant reads like a fairy tale (very sort of matter-of-fact, no-frills writing) but it hit me (and has stuck with me) in similarly complex ways.
  13. A Fighting Chance; Elizabeth Warren
    • Full disclosure: I listened to this as an audiobook... but Elizabeth Warren reads it! How cool is that?! Full disclosure 2: I heart her.
  14. Stone Mattress: Nine Tales; Margaret Atwood
    • in progress...
  15. The Martian; Andy Wier
    • Legit finished this book in three days, only one of which was a weekend. Believe the hype.
